Some people are unsure of what art to collect. I’ve read that people think they will be judged poorly for buying art that others may not like or value. I say, if you connect with the artist, buy the art. If you love the subject matter, add it to your collection. If you are travelling, and want something to remember the place, pick up some local art. Even if the art doesn’t match your couch, or even if it does, go for it!
Mostly my own work is hanging in my studio, not in the other rooms in my house. Not sure why, really, but I have collected so many interesting paintings from my travels and from other artists, and I like to see them out in my rooms.
In my last home, I hung work wherever I could find a place for it, without any rhyme or reason. In my new home, I had the luxury of deciding which pieces to hang together. Well, honestly, sometimes the configuration of the walls made the decision for me; I could only hang so many large pieces in the bedroom due to where the windows and doors were placed.
I decided to put art together by theme. The mostly red collection above, is kitchen themed, and looks great on my dining room’s green walls.
My living room and front hall have mostly Italian themed work. (Please forgive all the crooked-looking photos, when there is glass on the front, it’s hard to take the pic straight on without getting a glare.)
These two striking photos of statues seemed to want to hang out together.
I love birds, and have been painting some lately myself. This collection of other artists’ birds hangs in the small hallway into my bedroom.
I’ve shown you mine, please show me yours!
